Short run, single hit tooling is more economical than long run, progressive tooling. Operations are performed in separate single station tools. Short run tooling provides savings in the tooling dollars spent but the cost of production runs are higher because the part has to be handled and hit multiple times. For smaller orders, the savings in short run tooling usually makes sense.
